Solder wetting
Solder wetting occurs when molten solder contacts, spreads over, and bonds with the metal surface to be joined.
Other learning contexts (1)
In context
Surface oxidation or contamination may hinder wetting. Flux, surface treatment, and atmosphere provide means of managing bonding surface conditions.
Example
Reaching a defined temperature does not ensure good wetting at every contact. Check surface conditions together with actual time-temperature history.
Key distinction
Bonding conditions combine thermal history with metal surface conditions.
