Solder ball
A solder ball is an external connection terminal made by forming metal solder into a sphere for joining.
Other learning contexts (2)
In context
Balls arranged beneath a substrate wet the joining surfaces when heated, connecting electrically and mechanically to the board. Their shape after cooling may differ from the initial perfect sphere.
Example
Ball size alone does not determine joint quality. Contact spacing, joint height, wetting, and board warpage all contribute.
Key distinction
Solder balls form board connection structures; visual inspection alone does not establish their function.
