Heat spreader
A heat spreader distributes heat from a small source over a wider area.

In context
A metal lid or similar structure can serve this role and assist contact with a cooling device. A heat spreader alone does not ultimately release all heat into the surroundings.
Example
After spreading heat over a wider area, a heat sink or cooling path is needed to remove it. Do not treat spreading and final removal as the same function.
Key distinction
Separate the step that reduces heat concentration from the step that transfers heat outside.
