Treatment Capacity
Treatment capacity
Treatment capacity is the amount equipment can treat while maintaining its target performance under specified influent properties and operating conditions.
In context
The incoming pollutant load matters as well as the volume of water. Even at the same flow rate, a large change in concentration changes the burden on the equipment.
Example
Even if the volume of water entering hypothetical equipment has not increased, a higher organic matter concentration may change the oxygen demand and residue generation. Concluding that conditions are unchanged because the amount of water is unchanged is insufficient.
Key distinction
Treatment capacity is a value tied to influent conditions and target performance.
