Environmental Impact Category
Environmental impact category
An environmental impact category is an assessment category that groups potential effects of emissions and resource use by their nature, such as climate change or eutrophication.
In context
The same technology may reduce the burden in one category and increase it in another. Do not simply add different indicators without even knowing their units.
Example
Even if the carbon-related equivalent amount decreases, water use or nutrient discharges to water bodies may increase. Read a life cycle assessment conclusion together with the categories it includes.
Key distinction
Distinguish a claim of lower carbon from a claim of lower impacts across all environmental categories.
