Infiltration
Infiltration moves surface water into the ground through gaps in soil or rock.
In context
Some dissolved constituents may move downward with rainwater. Actual speed and depth depend on soils, layers, moisture, and substance properties.
Example
Whether spilled substances remain at the surface or move underground with water requires separate verification. Downward movement does not mean every substance reaches groundwater at the same speed.
Key distinction
Infiltration can provide a pollutant pathway, but actual connections require data.
