Cross-media Transfer
Cross-media transfer
Cross-media transfer moves pollutants from one environmental medium, such as air, water, or soil, into another.
In context
Lower concentrations in one medium may not mean all pollutants have degraded. Where separated substances accumulate and how they are subsequently managed matter.
Example
Absorbing gas into wash water reduces it in air but creates a wash-water burden. Planning subsequent water treatment prevents transferring air improvements into another problem.
Key distinction
Distinguish pollution reduction, transfer, and changes in properties.
