Synchronous rectification
Synchronous rectification replaces a diode's rectifying function with a MOSFET or similar device driven at appropriate times.
Other learning contexts (1)
In context
It may reduce conduction loss at low voltage and high current, but requires driver, dead-time, and reverse-current control. Adding a switch does not automatically improve efficiency.
Example
Incorrect lower-MOSFET turn-on may cause reverse current or shoot-through. Rectification mode may also change at light load.
Key distinction
Synchronous rectification exchanges lower conduction loss for greater control complexity.
